The National Trust’s 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ challenge has been refreshed for 2013 and includes stargazing! Celebrating the great outdoors this spring there’s everything from spotting stars to really long bike rides - plenty of new family adventures to be had, whatever the weather.

With help from kids all over the country the National Trust has pulled together a list of great challenges for you; the ultimate ‘50 things to do before you’re 11¾’.

Here’s a selection of the best ones to try out in Spring:

27. Star gazing
Recommended by Amy, aged 9
Spring is a great time to camp outside and study the stars. See which constellations you can find using our Spring starcharts and video - or why not try out one of our dedicated Dark Sky Discovery Sites.

36. Make a home for a wild animal
Recommended by Thomas, aged 8
All sorts of animals need homes. You could try making a bug hotel, hedgehog house or even a bird box. Check out the bug homes in the kitchen garden at Packwood House.

18. Create some wild art
Recommended by Anastasia, aged 9
As spring time flourishes, you’ll find lots of exciting and colourful things that you can make your own wild masterpiece from. If you’ve got crafty hands then visit the dedicated art area at Sheringham Park.

There are thousands of ‘50 things’ events and activities to discover across the year at a National Trust place near you, and on our 50 things website you can design your very own outdoor explorer who will guide you and your family along the way to completing all your 50 things.
